Three Years Ago, I Retired
Three years ago, following my retirement at age 64, I found myself with the time and curiosity to explore a new venture that had always fascinated me: futures trading.
Like many who enter this space, I was initially captivated by the promise of “easy money” and the endless marketing for automated software. Desperate to find a shortcut, I invested $5,000 into a fully automated algorithmic system that promised to do it all — buying, selling, and managing risk on autopilot.

For the next two years, I fell into the classic retail trader trap. I tested countless indicators, bought various products, and watched hundreds of hours of conflicting YouTube videos. Exhausted and on the verge of giving up entirely, I decided to try one last thing: I stripped away the noise and just watched the price action.
I noticed a massive, recurring pattern. The Micro E-mini Nasdaq-100 (MNQ) exhibits immense volatility right at the 9:30 AM EST market open. I realized that if I could capture just a fraction of that explosive morning momentum using strict discipline, I could build a sustainable edge.
